Ten ways in which to avoid wasting Energy after you Run Your Home cooling system

Air conditioners have a notorious reputation for sucking up power and hiking up energy bills. But your air conditioner doesn’t have to be a money pit, nor do you have to suffer in the heat in order to save money. You can keep cool and preserve the environment by heeding these 10 energy-saving tips when you run your AC this summer:

1) Purchase the right size unit for the space being cooled.

Many homes actually have air conditioners that are too big for the size of the home. One that is too big will shut off when it reaches the thermostat setting and before de-humidification occurs. This results in a clammy, uncomfortable feel and uneven cooling.

2) Set your thermostat at the required temperature, not colder.

Decide what temperature you and your family are most comfortable at and then leave it there. Dropping your thermostat setting will not make your air conditioner cool your home faster.

3) Augment your AC with fans rather than turning the thermostat lower.

If you’re concerned that cool air isn’t reaching the furthest corners of your home, turning down the temperature, even more, won’t solve the problem. Use fans to circulate the air and direct it to those out-of-the-way rooms. This will use less energy.

4) Set your fan to shut off at the same time as your compressor does.

If you want to keep air circulating through your home after the air conditioner shuts off, use stand-alone room fans instead. This uses less overall power than running your system’s fan.

5) Always double check that windows are closed before running your air conditioner.

Everyone knows that an open window causes your AC to have to work harder. However, it’s still easy to forget that windows may have been opened but not shut. A quick check only takes a minute or two but can save a lot of money.

6) Make sure your ducts are clean.

Control Your Home’s Heat Or A/C Right From Your Smartphone

Let’s face it, smartphones rock! They allow us to communicate with friends, family, co-workers and clients, check out Facebook, pin away on Pinterest, listen to our favourite playlists and relax with some of the latest games. Recently smartphones have become even cooler allowing homeowners to be more energy efficient and save money. Now you can control your home’s temperature right from your smartphone. Seriously, it is true.

Thermostats are smarter these days and as long as you have a smartphone, Wi-Fi connection (and a Wi-Fi compatible programmable thermostat at home) you can check the temperature in your home any time, anywhere. And, if you think its time to crank the heat or turn up the A/C you can do so right from your smartphone (or tablet) as long as your home’s energy efficient HVAC system has the ability to work with a programmable thermostat and you have a Wi-Fi compatible programmable thermostat as previously mentioned. Whether you are down the road or across the country, this is a great way to regulate the heating and cooling of your home.

How does it work? As long as you have all the necessary components, it can be as simple as downloading the app that connects your home’s thermostat to your smartphone or tablet. If your HVAC system is not the right type, directly talk with your heating and cooling professional to see what it would take to install a system that would work. This advancement allows you to save on your heating and cooling bills, increase your home’s energy efficiency and is excellent for families and individuals who are on the go. If you forget to turn down the heat because the kids are screaming and you are late for work, no worries just grab your phone. If you are travelling but notice the forecast for your area has changed since you left, you can make adjustments. Don’t want to go home to a cold house (or a hot one for that matter) merely adjust the temperature before you arrive home.…
